The SXSW DEI team is kicking off our new event series, Community Conversations! On Thursday, August 14, we're hosting a panel discussion about building, scaling, and sustaining community.

Street Genius: Summer Mini Camp

Addressing and bolstering boys of color’s confidence and self-awareness through creativity, entrepreneurship, technology, mentoring and holistic learning.

Program description:

Street Genius

July 23-24, 10am-5:30 pm at Austin PBS. Hands on workshops and presentations  sessions daily, career mentors, collaborative art project 

Summer Mini Camp Themes:

Graphic Novel design - brainstorm, draw and narrate your own graphic novel panels

The Drip: Fashion Design - Meet with male fashion designers and stylists for a hands on lesson in upcycling your closet and finding your look

Non-Traditional Creative Jobs: Stunt work - A movie script is more than words. Work with a professional stunt man to coordinate a few stunt scenes as a team.

Gathering boys and boy-identifying students ages 10-15 to partake in art, design thinking and entrepreneurship projects while exposing them to careers 

Students will create a product for good using some of the tenants discussed in media literacy and well-being workshops.

Learn practical ways to integrate AI into your daily operations—automating tasks, enhancing marketing efforts, and generating content to boost productivity. Every session comes with a Toolkit of templates, guides, and resources to support your journey. This class is eligible for the City of Austin Business Skills Certificate Program. The instructor is Julie Niehoff, Co-Founder & CMO of Distance Learning Media.

Participants will also get a free toolkit – a collection of templates, forms, worksheets, software and other helpful resources to help make good use of the information shared in class.
